The Forum on Education Abroad looks forward to convening colleagues at the 2023 CIGL Conference with a focus on preparing future professionals through internships and career-integrated global learning. The Call for Proposals is open now through Friday April 7, 2023.

Internships and career-integrated global learning are among the fastest growing areas of education abroad, allowing students to access high-impact international experiences with immersive engagement in a host organization and local community. Ranging from individual placements or industry-based projects to pre-program research or re-entry workshops to multinational corporation (MNC) site visits or NGO case studies, the opportunities to explore how current education applies to future professions are vast. And the challenges are real.

What will the world of work look like for future professionals? Which skills and knowledge will be most applicable? How can these be enhanced through global learning?

The conference will encourage discussion and debate, incorporating insights from the host region and inspiration from participants. Innovative ideas, lingering questions, emerging research, evolving practices, program models, and applied learning methods are welcome.

New for 2023, CIGL will be held in conjunction with the Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAEI). Proposals incorporating content or context related to the Americas (US, Canada, and Latin America) are encouraged.

Conference content will be incorporated into plenary panels, spotlight presentations, concurrent sessions, think tanks, networking prompts, and informal conversations.

Potential topics related to internships and career-focused global learning may include—but are not limited to—the following:

  • Cross-cultural Coaching
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Emerging Industry Areas
  • Ethical Local Engagements
  • Evaluating New Locations
