MenuI have over 19 years of experience working with developing families including; newborn healthcare, and women throughout the stages of the lifespan from childbearing years through menopause. Since starting with Clemson University in 2007, I have been in charge of the education of undergraduate and graduate nurses in the specialty of obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health. I work with students in multiple clinical sites beyond the acute care setting including; community clinics run by faculty, participating in research with our clinical partners, and participating in education conferences. In 2010, I began mentoring students in an international service learning clinical experience in multiple different countries to enhance their cultural awareness. Each year I had the opportunity to travel on a medical mission with undergraduate and graduate nursing students in a short term immersion experience to areas such as Ecuador, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. In 2010, I graduated with a Certificate in Women’s Studies with a focus on Global/Population Heath to better enhance my students educational experiences in community care. In 2016, we began a month long study in a low resource country as part of the Global Health Certificate Program to incorporate culturally competent care to vulnerable populations working with local agencies.
