MenuProfessor Jack Harris has been a Professor of Sociology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) since 1974. He directed the HWS Rome program in Fall 2015.
Professor Harris has directed the HWS program in London three times since the early 1980s, and directed the HWS and Union College Partnership for Global Education program in Vietnam in 1997 and in 2012. He has led four faculty and two alumni group study tours to Vietnam, most recently in August, 2013. He was the Director for the ASIANetwork-Mellon Foundation grant study tour for U.S. scholars of Asian Studies unfamiliar with Vietnam in summer, 2013. He teaches courses in the Sociology of Community, the Sociology of Business and Management, the Sociology of the Future, and the Senior Seminar Research Practicum.
Dr. Harris was twice President of the New York State Sociological Association. Dr. Harris directs the Men’s Studies Minor at HWS and is formerly chair of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology and the American Studies Program. He has extensive community service involvement, most recently partnering with the Geneva Human Rights Commission on a research project on fair housing funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
