MenuCandelas Gala holds the Charles E. Taylor Chair in Romance Languages and Literatures at Wake Forest University. She is also the Director of the Wake Forest program in Salamanca, Spain, coordinator of the Languages across the Curriculum program, and editor/director of the academic journal Cuadernos de ALDEEU. Initially a one-semester program, under Dr. Gala’s directorship the Salamanca program has been expanded to the fall and spring semesters as well as both summer sessions, and during the spring semester it offers the Global Trade and Commerce minor. The Salamanca program offers a wide scope of courses in the humanities (Spanish language, literature, and culture; history; art; film studies; linguistics), in social sciences (politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, psychology), in business (international business in Spain and Latin America), and in sciences (biochemistry, physical chemistry, astronomy). The program also offers internships with more than twenty agencies in the city. All courses are taught entirely in Spanish by professors from the University of Salamanca and by the Wake Forest faculty member who accompanies the group.
Dr. Gala has authored several books and numerous scholarly essays on 20th-century Spanish literature and contributes regularly to national and international academic symposia.
