April 12, 2015, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (Central)
University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI
Since the new Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting was issued in 2011, VAWA was passed and the Title IX Dear Colleague Letter was sent, questions have arisen among education abroad professionals, risk managers, legal counsels and campus police chiefs. Many institutions and program sponsors still have questions as they grapple with the impact of these new laws or interpretations. Co-sponsored by the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), expert presenters from both The Forum and NACUA will provide answers and respond to questions. This is an opportunity to specifically address implications for study abroad.
Topics to be discussed include: What is the Clery Act? What is the Violence Against Women Act? What is Title IX? Where do they intersect? Where and how do they differ? What are our obligations with respect to these Acts? How do we build a culture of reporting and compliance when incidents occur thousands of miles away?
Facilitators: Natalie Mello (The Forum on Education Abroad) and Joe Storch (SUNY; NACUA)
