The Forum on Education Abroad announces a workshop to address implications for education abroad as a result of recent federal activity: the Violence Against Women Act; Title IX and the revision to the Handbook for the Clery Act. Topics to be discussed include: Where do they intersect? Where and how do they differ? What are our obligations with respect to these Acts? How do we build a culture of reporting and compliance when incidents occur thousands of miles away? Since the new Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting was issued in 2011, VAWA was passed and the Title XI Dear Colleague Letter was sent, questions have arisen among education abroad professionals, risk managers, legal counsels and campus police chiefs. Many institutions and program sponsors still have questions as they grapple with the impact of these new laws or interpretations. Expert presenters from both The Forum and NACUA will provide answers and respond to questions. This is an opportunity to specifically address implications for study abroad.
