Forum Credentials: Curriculum
The Forum on Education Abroad is the only Standards Development Organization (SDO) for the field of education abroad. Recognized as the SDO by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, The Forum develops and disseminates Standards of Good Practice to promote quality education abroad programs.
Structure
Forum Credentials are earned by attending the workshop associated with the credential and successfully completing the accompanying Standards Assignments.
Assignments are challenging and have practical applications in your current and future positions. Highly-qualified and trained Forum Certification Assessors review completed assignments and provide valuable feedback.
Forum’s Credentials stand on their own or can be and can be applied towards the Professional Certification in Education Abroad Program.
Timeframe
Forum Credentials are designed to be individualized, self-paced and flexible. Each Forum Credential must be completed within 1 year after admission.
Workshops
Forum Workshops are offered on a regular basis across the U.S. and around the world, and in conjunction with The Forum’s Annual Conference and Biennial European Conference. While workshops are open to all education abroad professionals, participants seeking a Forum Credential must also complete the Standards Assignments related to the content of the workshop. Workshop registration is included in the Credential cost and is also available online at no additional cost.
Standards Assignments
The Standards Assignments relate to the content of the Standards of Good Practice and provide the means to evaluate your ability to articulate and apply the Standards. The Assignments require participants to apply what they learn to a variety of education abroad organizational and institutional contexts, and provide opportunities for real world application. Standards Assignments are evaluated by Forum Certification Assessors who are trained and appointed by The Forum.

Recognition
Upon completion, a digital badge is issued (valid for three years) describing the skills confirmed by the Forum Credential. The digital badge can be displayed on resumes, curricula vitae, email signatures, business cards and websites. Your accomplishment will also be listed on The Forum’s website.
Credential Maintenance
Forum Credentials expire three years after they are issued. Maintenance is achieved by pursuing a new Forum Credential, or by enrolling in the Professional Certification Program. Participants who subsequently complete the Professional Certification Program maintain their Credentials as long as they maintain their Certification through its maintenance program.
