Description: The Annual Conference Committee works closely with Forum staff in creating the Call for Proposals and reviewing session proposals to shape the content of the conference. Conference committee members contribute via e-mail and teleconference, primarily in May, June, and September, and are expected to attend the conference.

Expected Deliverables: Selecting conference theme and creating Call for Proposals; promoting the call for proposals in their networks; reviewing session proposals

Length of Term: 1 year; chairs serve a second year as Past Chair

Description: This working group is tasked with understanding and promoting sustainable development as the pathway to sustainability, tying together Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI), ethics, community engagement and environmental challenges. The will be asked to continue the work to demonstrate that the SDGs are integral to Education Abroad and promote the application of the Guidelines for Advancing the SDGs through Education Abroad by identifying case study examples for institutions and organizations at various phases of implementation, from beginner to advanced.

Expected Deliverables: SDG Award, September – November: Review of award submissions and make announcement during International Education Week in November, Plan for recognition at conference; Case Studies:, November – January: Pull case studies from award submissions; Analyze and decide what parts are useable; Decide next steps for future work; Primers, February – April: Create primer and focus on understanding the SDGs; Marketing, promoting, and outreach of SDGs throughout; Serve as ambassadors.

Time Commitment: Up to two, 1-hour meetings per month + asynchronous work (4-5 hours per month total)

Description: This committee is responsible for vetting submissions, selecting winners, and preparing the winners for their participation in the annual conference for both the Curriculum Award and the Award for Academic Achievement Abroad (given to students).

Expected Deliverables: Selection of winners; coaching of students for conference plenary

Length of Term: 1 awards cycle

Time Commitment: approximately 5 hours per month from September through November + time spent at the annual conference (for selected members of the group)

Description: The EMEA Conference Committee works closely with Forum staff in deciding on the conference theme, creating the Call for Proposals, and reviewing session proposals to create the content of the conference. Conference committee members contribute via e-mail and teleconference, primarily in October and January.

Expected Deliverables: Selecting conference theme and creating Call for Proposals; reviewing session proposals; assistance with plenary speaker identification.

Length of Term: 1 year; chairs serve a second year as Past Chair

Time Commitment: Time commitment varies from month to month; committee members will be asked to devote 2-3 hours/month in May and June in preparation for the call for proposals; Several hours will be required for proposal review after the September deadline

Description: This group will be asked to stay abreast of pending legislation or proposed revisions and renewals of existing legislation at the state and national level, provide feedback and updates on legislative issues, contribute to educating the field on the legislative process, and explain the impact of proposed legislation. The committee should include government relations professionals, education abroad professionals, and university communications professionals.

Expected Deliverables: This committee will work directly with Forum executive leadership in an advisory role.

Length of Term: 2 years

Time Commitment: approximately 2 hours per month, though this will vary depending on proposed legislation

Description: This group is tasked with combining the current Guidelines for Education Abroad Advising and the Guidelines for On-Site Advising as well as refreshing and updating the content to reflect the 6th edition of the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad and current practice.

Expected Deliverables: Combine and revise the two current guidelines to comply with the 6th edition of the Standards; Include new/revised section on equity, diversity, and inclusion based on Standards and best practices; Create new title for the combined Guidelines; Develop promotional tools for the updated guidelines; Seek advice from generalists and experts from outside the working group.

Description: This group is tasked with refreshing and updating the content of the current Guidelines for Community Engagement, Service-Learning, and Volunteer Experiences Abroad to reflect the 6th edition of the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad and current practice. Representatives from the Community-Based Global Learning Collaborative will also be invited to collaborate on this project.

Expected Deliverables: Revise the current guidelines to comply with the 6th edition of the Standards; Include new/revised section on equity, diversity, and inclusion based on Standards and best practices; Create new title for the combined Guidelines; Develop promotional tools for the updated guidelines; Seek advice from generalists and experts from outside the working group.

Description: This group is tasked with refreshing and updating the content of the current Guidelines for Undergraduate Health-Related Experiences Abroad to reflect the 6th edition of the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad and current practice.

Description: The annual Institute on Best Practices for Health, Safety, Security & Risk Management is education abroad’s signature annual event focusing on the education abroad risk management issues faced daily by organizations and institutions. The Standards Institute Planning Committee is formed in September for the event the following June, and will include one Council member. The committee provides feedback on potential plenary speakers in September & October. In February, the committee reviews session proposals.

Expected Deliverables: Develop Call for Proposals, assist with recruitment of proposals, review of proposals, attend the Institute

Length of Term: 9 months, beginning in September

Time Commitment: approximately 3 hours per month + attendance at the Institute

Description: This group is charged with investigating and producing a library/catalog of sustainable hybrid program models with the goal of supporting best practices. To achieve this, they will define hybrid programming and different models, collect examples of sustainable models; explore the role of intercultural learning ; identify support structures for students, faculty, and staff; identify academic components of a high-quality program and ways to assess learning; and to identify pricing models, revenue, transparency in pricing and fee structures.

Expected Deliverables: Provide guidance for engagement of faculty around virtual and on-site hybrid courses and programs; Clarify roles/responsibilities of faculty vs. education abroad offices in the development of hybrid programming ; Solicit conference proposals focused on hybrid programming; Update Glossary definitions as needed; Gather case studies to explore successful (academic and financial) models for hybrid programs; Clarify hybrid program learning goals and develop list of benefits to students; Generate list of benefits of hybrid programming to institutions

Time Commitment: 1-2 one-hour meetings per month as well as asynchronous work

Description: This group is tasked with continuing the work of the former Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the World working group by engaging international colleagues and gathering and sharing information on perspectives and approaches to equity, diversity, and inclusion around the world in different social contexts. Colleagues with technical skills related to podcast production are especially encouraged to apply.

Expected Deliverables: Develop an eight-episode plan for the podcast series, including content, interviewees, questions, outreaching ideas, and production/post-production planning; Review data collected from previous “What is EDI” survey; Consider revising/updating the survey questions to include capturing data on barriers to inclusive engagement internationally; Give specific consideration to EDI meanings, terminology, and concerns outside of the U.S.

Time Commitment: Monthly meetings (can include additional non-traditional hours); Version of the Podcast plan to be available by the annual conference

Description: The Internship Task Force will review the Guidelines for Internships Abroad, the current QUIP recognition process, and the 6th edition of the Standards of Good Practice to ensure a rigorous, quality review process for internship programs.

Expected Deliverables:

• Guidance on applying the 6th edition of the Standards of Good Practice to internship programs
• Suggestions for modifying the existing QUIP process to distinguish high quality internship programs

Anticipated End Date: December 2020

Description: The Membership Engagement Working Group will support a specific component of the member engagement plan to define the value of membership, and work on practical, innovative ways to communicate and clarify that value. The working group will proceed under two broad frameworks: 1) intentionality; 2) broadening pathways to engagement.

Expected Deliverables: Based on the diverse institutional experiences of the individuals, produce a document that serves as a “roadmap” to Forum program, services, and resources for dissemination to an array of different stakeholders; Each member of the group will contribute to the production of an “onboarding” video for members aimed at different target audiences (i.e. study abroad advisers, financial officers, resident directors, internship coordinators, faculty, etc.); Develop a survey and/or visioning exercise focusing on new pathways to engagement to seek input from membership ; Propose future engagement initiatives based on survey results.

Time Commitment: Monthly 1-hour meetings + asynchronous collaboration (hours will vary from month-to-month); video recordings will be due in October

Description: This group will help The Forum to develop a regional engagement strategy with a focus on Latin America to encourage more dialogue between colleagues around the world and help institutions/organizations in the region meet their education abroad goals.

Expected Deliverables: Needs analysis for the region: plan by end of September, conduct by November, analyze by end of year; Consider whether the needs analysis can be conducted during The Forum’s participation in the CAIE conference; Review work completed by YLAI fellow as part of the needs analysis; Outline a regional engagement plan for Latin America, to be executed in the following year; Identify relevant existing resources to be shared in a print or web resource; Identify new resources that need to be developed to address this audience’s needs.

Time Commitment: Bi-monthly 1-hour virtual meetings + sub-group meetings as needed; Work outside meetings will range from 2-4 hours per month

Description: Serve as advisors to the Director for Research in developing upcoming Forum research projects and data reports.

Expected Deliverables: Provide feedback on Forum data collection projects and collaborations as needed.

Length of Term: 2  years

Time Commitment: approximately 2 hours per month; 1 hour for monthly meeting, 1 hour for review of materials in preparation for the meeting

Description: The Standards Resources Committee performs an annual review of current member resources and finds new resources to fill existing gaps and timely needs in the field. One major focus for the current term will be on reorganizing current resources based on the new 6th edition of the Standards and continue to collect new resources for community colleges, minority-serving institutions (MSIs), historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), tribal colleges and universities (TCUs), and international organizations.

Expected Deliverables: Identifying and vetting new resources

Length of Term: 2 years

Time Commitment: approximately 1 hour per month

Description: The Peter A. Wollitzer Advocacy Award honors a colleague who has been remarkably effective in influencing institutions of higher learning to understand and support education abroad through the promotion of The Forum’s mission and vision. The Selection Committee includes a representative from the Board of Directors (appointed by the Executive Committee of the Board), a representative from the Forum Council, and three members-at-large. Selection will occur in January, and the award will be presented at the Annual Conference.

Expected Deliverables: Recruitment of nominations; selection of winner

Length of Term: 1 award cycle

Time Commitment: approximately 2 hours per month from October to January
