Education Abroad Digital Resource Center

The Forum on Education Abroad and The New York Times in Education are collaborating in the development of an innovative new resource for education abroad. The Education Abroad Digital Resource Center will utilize New York Times news, content, and archives that span 164 years to enhance education abroad learning, before, during and after the education abroad experience.

Seven Forum member institutions have been selected to participate in the pilot project that will assist in the development of the Education Abroad Digital Resource Center: Drexel University; Georgia Institute of Technology; Hobart and William Smith Colleges; Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University; New York University; Texas A&M; and Yale University. These institutions have assigned selected faculty and staff full access to unparalleled resources of NYTimes.com during the 2014-15 academic year: news, opinion and analysis in all content areas, searchable according to a program’s location and discipline, and in various media. Pilot participants will be able to draw on a wide range of material in the development of their courses and programs, including daily news briefs; political analysis and editorials on contemporary issues; book, film, art, and music reviews; and food and travel resources.

Participants in the project will share their experiences in applying these materials, which will aid in the development of the Digital Resource Center. The Digital Resource Center is expected to provide a user-friendly interface for faculty, staff and students with customized guidance on how to use The New York Times for education abroad as well as best practice examples of how to apply these resources to advance student learning during pre-departure, on-site and re-entry education abroad programming.
